III .38 revolvers fitted with the correct sliding safety bar and “No. 4" type, oversized walnut grip issued by the Director General of the India Store Depot, ca. 1936. The revolver has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, and barrel and retains 70-75% of the original blue finish, with the balance faded to a mottled, salt & pepper gray-brown patina, especially along the bottom of the frame, and along the sides of the barrel. The revolver is extensively marked with Birmingham civil proofs and military acceptance stamps, as well as an Indian Stores Depot stamp on the right side of the frame: “(Broad Arrow) / I 8/1936". The square-butt, checkered walnut grips are in good-near very good condition with numerous handling marks on either side, as well as flattening of the points. The barrel lock-up is tight and the mechanism (including the safety) is fully functional. These are interesting Mk. III variants, issued just prior to the outbreak of WW2.
