Description:
Serial #33496, .38-55, 32" heavy target barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an 1889 made rifle, rebarreled with a Winchester No. 4 barrel at some point in its life. The barrel retains about 80-85% of the original blue, with the balance streaked to a dark plum-blue patina with silvering along the edges and projections. The barrel has a spirit level front target sight installed, and a filled dovetail near the breech. The frame has an overall pewter gray patina that carries over onto the underlever as well. The tang has a flip-up Vernier sight, and a non-original single-set trigger is fitted. The forend is in fine condition with only some minor handling marks and small blemishes in the original varnish finish, and the buttstock (which appears to be original) was modified to accept a hooked, schutzen style buttplate. The wood is in very good shape, but does have a repaired chip at the toe. The accompanying data sheet states that the rifle was originally chambered in .32-40 with a No. 3 octagon barrel, and that it was equipped with a plain trigger. This is nevertheless a very nice High Wall, chambered in a great caliber, and rates very good-fine condition overall. Antique
