Description:
This is an attractive sword that measures 38 3/4" overall with a 32 1/2" straight, single-edged blade having short, unstopped fullers. The steel has an overall bright gray patina with scattered spots of dark freckling on both sides. The ricasso has British military acceptance proofs on both sides, as well as a 2 ’03 date on the reverse. The hilt has a pierced, Edward VII cypher-marked guard, and has scattered spots of dark brown oxidation here and there. The interior of the guard has a series of crossed out unit markings along with a clear “A. / R.C.R. / 2" (Royal Canadian Regiment, 2nd Battalion). The scabbard patina matches the rest of the fittings, but does exhibit some dark plum-brown underlying metal where the nickel has flaked away, especially near the hanger rings and at the drag. This is a handsome, RCR-marked sword, and rates very good-near fine condition.
