Description:
The Colt Woodsman Match Target model was the Colt firm's top-of-the-line Woodsman model. It was designed to be extremely accurate and win matches while still being a "sporting" gun that could be carried afield for plinking or hunting. The 3rd Series Match Target's were offered in a 4.5" or 6" inch heavy barrel with a full underlug and featured a gloss-blue factory finish, a slide-stop and hold-open, a left side frame-mounted thumb safety, a bottom-mounted heel magazine release, and checkered Walnut "Target" grips with right-handed thumb shelf. The "3rd Series" guns were built from 1955 to 1977. This particular example was made in 1968 and is in excellent overall condition. It is 100% original and in perfect working order. The original factory gloss-blue finish rates 97%, with only some very minor handling marks that are only visible under very close inspection. The bore in this Colt is mirror-bright and pristine. The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves and there are no visible imperfections or erosion. The original factory grips are in great shape overall, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. The worst deduction from the grips is a spot of finish wear on the right side grip where the clear coat has worn off to the bare wood, likely from laying on that side in a sock drawer or something while being stored. As you can see from the pictures, it does not stick out as an eyesore and does very little to take away from the clean overall look of this Woodsman. The internals of this Colt as just as clean as the exterior and show little to no mechanical wear. The slide to frame fit is superb, and it is very obvious that this pistol has been fired VERY little since leaving the Colt factory 51 years ago. If you have been looking for an exceedingly nice Woodsman Match Target for your collection this example would be an excellent choice.
