Description:
This is a very attractive 100% original and matching WW2 P-38 rig made by the Spreewerke firm in October of 1943 during the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Nazi Germany.  It is unique and scarce in that it was built with previously rejected parts that were reclaimed.  This can be identified by the small asterik stamped on the left side of the frame just behind the serial number, and another stamped on the right side of the slide just ahead of the cocking serrations.  "CYQ" was the code the Germans assigned the factory in order to hide the pistol's origins if captured.  This CYQ P-38 comes as a complete rig with two proper "jvd" marked magazines and a 1943 dated German Military hardshell holster which is maker marked "cww".  The P-38 9mm pistol was the successor to the venerable P-08 Luger for Nazi Germany.  It was designed to be faster, cheaper, and easier to manufacture than the Luger, requiring far less skilled labor and machining.  Despite these factors the P-38 proved to be a very good combat pistol, both reliable and accurate.  The P-38 features a semi-automatic double-action design with a locking-block equipped barrel assembly, a blued factory finish, a slide-mounted safety/de-cocking lever, 2-piece Bakelite gips, a frame-mounted take-down lever, and a detachable 8-round single-stack magazine with a heel mounted release.  This particular example retains 93 to 95% of it's original factory finish, with some finish wear on the front grip strap, some minor high edge wear from being holster carried, and some minor pinprick speckling from surface rust that was removed long ago.  This pistol looks like it was carried in combat but was well cared-for.  All of the factory stampings and German Waffenamts are clear and crisp, and all of the serial numbered parts are matching and original.  The bore is excellent in this CYQ, bright and clean with sharp rifling.  There is no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind in the bore.  The original Bakelite grips are in excellent condition as well, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings.  Both sides match each other perfectly and are nice and tight to the gun.  All of the controls on this P-38 are in perfect working order and the action locks up tight.  The slide to frame fit is excellent without any slop.  As mentioned before, this CYQ comes with two original and proper "jvd" coded magazines in perfect working order.  The original 1943 dated hardshell holster is in great shape with soft and pliable leather and all of the original stitching intact.  The back of the holster is stamped with the maker's code "cww", the date "1943", the large "P 38" stamp, and an Eagle "WaA 392" Waffenamt.  If you have been looking for a unique and 100% original WW2 P-38 rig for your collection that you can enjoy as both an investment and an occasional shooter, this reclaimed slide and frame Spreewerke rig would be an excellent choice.
