Description:
Dated 1863, this musket almost certainly saw battle in the American Civil War.  This Springfield 1861 Model rifled musket was made by the Bridesburg Machine Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  It is an all-original, un-altered, and un-molested musket in good condition overall.  It shows some wear and tear you would expect to see on a combat-used weapon from the Civil War.  The once bright and shiny barrel that was left "in the white" from the factory shows a yellow tint from old dried oil and multiple tiny spots from old rust previously removed.  The lockplate and hammer have a pleasing gray/brown patina and are in good condition with just a tiny bit of light pitting around the nipple fitting.  The lower triggerguard and tang are in excellent shape, free from any pitting or stains and showing clean metal.  The original American Walnut stock is 100% sound and attractive, free from any major damage or repairs. It shows only a lot of small dings, dents, and scratches from military service and combat.  All of the original stock hardware is intact and in good condition, including the barrel bands, sling swivels, and buttplate.  This Springfield Model 1861 rifled musket is in perfect working order with both full and half-cock positions intact on the hammer and a functional trigger.  It would no doubt fire today just as well as it did during the Civil War.  This musket is not for the Civil War collector who wants a pristine example, rather it is the perfect choice for a collector who wants a 100% original musket that actually was involved in the fighting and has the scars to prove it.  This is a genuine piece of American history that you can hold and admire.
