Description:
This FN Browning Model 1922 was made for the German Military during the Nazi occupation of Belgium during WW2, and was captured in a Dutch Military holster from a German soldier and brought back to the States as a War Trophy.   It is an all-matching and all-original "2nd Variation" gun with a high-polish blue finish and an excellent bore.  The high-polish blue finish shows some light holster wear and minor handling marks, typical of a combat used piece.  There is one little spot of finish loss on top of the slide just above the word "Herstal" of the slide legend that looks like the result of a drop of blood or chemical of some kind.  This particular example is interesting in that the barrel has a Belgian proof on it in addition to the Nazi firing proof.  The barrel was a left-over piece from prior to the German invasion that was used to build this pistol.  Besides the barrel, the slide and frame are marked with one Eagle/Swastika proof each and there is a "Eagle WaA140" Waffenamt to the left of the "Browning's Patent" slide legend.  The bore in this Model 1922 is in excellent condition, with strong and sharp rifling and no visible pitting or imperfections.  The original black plastic checkered grips with the FN logo are in good condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  This Nazi occupation Model 1922 appears to be in perfect working order and shows very little to no mechanical wear to the internal parts.  It is obvious that it has been fired very little since leaving the factory during the war.  As mentioned earlier, this pistol comes complete with a Dutch Military leather holster that it was captured in.  It was likely acquired by the German during the invasion of Holland in 1940, who's military also carried the FN Model 1922.  The holster is in good condition overall with flexible and soft leather, and tight 100% original stitching.  When it was originally issued to the Dutch Army it had a piece of leather on the top flap that would cover the butt of the pistol when closed that has been carefully removed, likely by the German soldier that carried it.  All of the original brass hardware is still in place and in good condition, as is the original single wide belt loop on the rear.  The cleaning rod pouch on the front edge of the holster is in great shape but is empty.  The inside of the holster is stamped with the serial number of the pistol it was originally issued with, along with an ink-stamped intertwined "CM" and the date 1937 on the inside of the top flap that is faint but still legible.  All in all, this is a very neat and unique "War Trophy" FN Browning Model 1922 rig that has more than likely seen some combat and certainly witnessed a lot of WW2 history.  It would be an excellent addition to any WW2 weapons collection.
