Description:
A classic mid-war German Feldflasche Modell 1931 (Field Bottle Model 1931) more commonly referred to as an M31 canteen in excellent & all matching condition. This canteen shows only minor field use & that is mainly on the cup & leather straps. The wartime economy measures are in full effect - the aluminum flask has been replaced by a steel flask with red enamel paint to prevent rust. Felt cover is economy wool. Leather is a mix of black & brown.
Detailed description is as follows:
Cup - Olive green paint shows some chips & a bit of rust but no major dents or dings. Paint is at about 90% with some red enamel showing through. The handles are intact & function just fine. Unmarked.
Flask - Beautiful red enameled steel flask with 95% of the paint intact with no rust. One very minor ding in the flask but that is not unusual for these canteens. Threads are completely intact & the lid screws on nice & tight. Marked with ordnance code "GNL" on the neck of the flask indicating manufacture by Gebruder Nolle Bestecke, Ludenscheid, Germany. "GNL" was a smaller manufacturer that produced mess equipment items such as canteens and mess tins.
Bakelite Lid - Excellent condition. No chips. Screws tightly on to the flask. Unmarked.
Wool Felt Cover - Superb. All the stitching is intact & all of the snaps function. No paint on the snaps but they all work as intended. NO stains or holes in the wool! Some of the best wool I have seen on a canteen. Classic mid-war economy felt with mostly recycled wool. Unmarked.
Leather straps - Complete & intact. The leather is flexible & has some minor cracks but they are all surface cracks & do not go all of the way through the leather.
Hook - Functions as intended & is marked "Patert Ritter".
This is a classic mid-war M31 that displays great & is the perfect addition to a display or collection.
