SOLD..Another REDUCED PRICE.......RARE Winchester 1876 Royal N.W. Canadian Mounted Police saddle ring carbine. This is another gun I am selling for a very good friend of mine... Here is an excellent example of a very rare 1876 SRC. To start with, this gun is documented by S/N in two books written on these guns. S/N 33207.... One book from Donald J. Klancher and Roger Phillips, Arms and Accoutrements of The Canadian Mounted Police. This gun was also once owned by the other author of a book on these guns, John S. Dumont. He said quote” this is one of the best I have ever seen “ end quote.. Please excuse me if I have misspelled the names but I am sure you can find these books and do your own research.. A freind of mine in NY also has a book on these with this very same gun listed by S/N so that is three books it is in.. Caliber of course is the 45-75. Has the standard 22' Barrel. The bore is excellent. Still bright and shiny with very minor specks of roughness. NO big pits or craters and very strong lands and grooves. NO rings or bulges of course. The mechanics are excellent as well. I have not had a chance to test fire but I am sure it will shoot and I will shoot it before it sells. I just have to hand load some 45-75 to test it. Hammer notches are perfect and positive. This gun still has quite a bit of original bright blue on the side plates and lower receiver as you can see in the photos... Some on the lower and upper tangs also. Has the original saddle ring and stud. Has the original front and very rare rear sight. NO caliber markings on the brass carrier or the barrel which is absolutely correct for the 45-75 caliber. Original dust cover that is still tight and retracts perfectly with the lever throw... The balance of the gun is smooth medium gray patina with NO pitting on the gun... Never cleaned on or messed with. All the markings are excellent. This gun show no abuse and just normal use. Much better than most you will find. These where very hard used guns in their time. The wood is real nice. The forearm has no cracks or splits. Looks like some varnish has been added over the years for protection but still fits tight and fairly proud at the receiver. Does not look to be sanded on or messed with. The butt stock is very nice as well with no splits or cracks. Some light varnish has been added as well and a little runs over on to the upper and lower tangs. Just something a lot of these guns have seen over the years and does not detract from this rare gun. Still has the very vivid ribbon cartouche on the right side of the stock { see photo }.... The butt stock has some very nice extra fancy grain and looks beautiful..Some screw heads show some minor turning but others are excellent and all are very serviceable. This is a very sought after 76 SRC by those who study and collect Canadian Mounted Police weapons. A high end dealer sold one of these a few years ago for $8500 and is was rough to say the least.... This a pretty expensive gun here so I am very willing to take more photos and answer all questions to my ability or to forward your questions to my friend In Texas who actually has one of the books this very gun is in and he know much more about these than I do.
