This is a antique and all rules and regulation regarding antique firearms apply.
The serial number is a very low four digit number #1352 which make it second year production (1888)
It comes in the original wood shipping crate which is in excellent condition. Original Colt crates like this one are nearly nonexistent. Barely discernible on the top of the crate you can make out the name John H. Graham. Mr. Graham has quite a history and I attached a photo of some of his history to this piece. Mr. Graham owned a hardware and gun shop in New York City in the 1880s when this piece was made. Although I did not factory letter this gun I can only presume that it went to Mr. Graham's store at some point. There is a partial label on the top of this crate that I imagine with the correct light filters some writing will be readable.
This rifle is a simply outstanding piece of American firearms history and I don't use that term lightly. I have had three or four of these in previous times but none anywhere near this piece.
The overall condition is 95%+ original and unmolested. The closeup photos of the side of the frame show cleaning marks in this early fragile finish however viewing from a normal perspective the appearance is quite spectacular.
The barrel shows almost no wear with the color on the sharp edges of the octagon barrel still intact. The barrel rates 99%.
The bore is unusually good at 7-8.
If you were going to collect a fine small frame Colt Lightning a better one would be harder to find. Price $7,500.00
