Colt model 1900 38 acp sn# 1987 shipped to Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co, Chicago ,Illinois on March 1, 1901 in a shipment of 3 pistols. This is the first semi auto manufactured for sale in the U.S. and a must have for an early Colt auto collector as only 4274 were manufacured. This is a sight safety altered pistol, precursor to the future 1911.
Matching slide sn# 1987. Appears original grips (may have been re-laquered), appears original blue at about 50%, original nickel plated mag with the correct "Pat'd Sept. 9, 1897" on the base. Ther is an aftermarket "C 125" marking on the left forward frame - I've had this pistol over 15 years and can't figure it out. May have been an inventory number for a police dept Chicago?, bank, security company??? Future research is needed.
