Description:
General Specs: Mauser, Year 1938, 8mm, 8lbs 6oz
Serial Number: 4753

What a classic German Mauser sporting rifle we have here, labeled by Richard Fleischer and built in 1938 on the Mauser K98 action, one of the all-time greatest bolt actions ever invented.  This rifle is in great original condition with some very fine features only found on the finest custom rifles.  The Krupp Steel barrel starts out round at the action, transitions to octagon for about 12” and then back to round, with a full length solid matted rib and integral front sight ramp…NICE!  The bore on this rifle is pristine with sharp, crisp rifling.  Someone knew how to care for a fine rifle in her past.  The rifle is mounted with a classic 1.5 – 4x variable power scope with the classic post and cross hair reticle that makes for very rapid target acquisition in the wooded areas we hunt deer.  The scope is mounted in quick-detachable claw type mounts that allow you to remove the scope and replace it with no loss of zero…a great feature for travel or if you needed to use the two leaf rear open sight for any reason.  The action, trigger guard, and hinged floor plate have a small amount of line engraving and have all been finished with a bone and charcoal case color and looks oh so nice.  The extractor and bolt release are jeweled, and the spoon-style bolt handle is checkered both front and back.  The double set triggers function perfectly and once set the very light trigger pull results in a great potential for pin-point placement.  The 8 x 57 cartridge is a great North American game cartridge known for moderate recoil and the .323 diameter bullets come in as light as 125gr. to as heavy as 220gr.  Many do not realize that the 8 x 57 Mauser cartridge is nearly the ballistic equivalent to the .30-06, the most cherished North American game cartridge in the USA.  Ammunition availability is prolific.  The barrel and action is mounted in a nicely figured European walnut stock with a cheek piece and slight Schnabel forend tip.  The inletting is flawless as is the fine pistol grip checkering.  There is a Greener style safety on the left side of the action area of the stock.  The grip cap and buttplate are buffalo horn.  If you had this rifle professionally built for you today the cost would exceed $8500.  It would be hard to find a maker who could do such a fine custom build as this rifle.  The craftsmen doing classic rifles are just too few and far between.  This is a great looking, classic rifle that weighs just 8lbs. 6oz. with the scope and sling.  A very handsome package for your shooting needs.  Thanks for looking.
