Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1911, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 3oz, Chokes LM/F, LOP 14 3/16", DAH 3", DAC 1 5/8"
Serial Number: 17359

Over the last decade Ansley H. Fox’s double guns have become the most desirable vintage American double guns on the planet.  And there is good reason, as Michael McIntosh points out in his book A.H. FOX  “THE FINEST GUN IN THE WORLD”; the Fox guns are supremely balanced, extremely reliable and simply built guns with classic good looks.  There are a LOT of 12ga. A Grade Fox guns available to own, and you can buy one pretty reasonably if you don’t mind restored or well-worn guns that have been cared for but used heavily.  It is very rare when you find a Fox that has been preserved in its original, high-condition state as when it left the factory.  This is what we have here in this Fox A Grade 12ga. sn17359 built in 1911; a gorgeous, wholly original, high condition Fox with 95% vivid factory original bone and charcoal case color, the engraving still sharp and possessing the “hooks” of the engraver’s cuts, with crisp screw slots, a trigger guard retaining 98% of the factory charcoal blue, the top lever displaying 99% factory niter blue, and the European walnut stocks showing fine figure and crisp factory original checkering.  The barrels retain that early Fox dark and vivid rust blue at 98% with only a few blemishes from 108 years of storage and use.  The 30” number 2 weight barrels ring like church bells and have mirror bores and the original 2 5/8” chambers and LM/F chokes.  The original factory strike marks are still visible on the breech end of the barrels.  The barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face and the wood-to-metal fit is superb.  I search out Fox guns daily and I have rarely seen such a fine original Fox in over 30 years of intensive treasure hunting.  This is a gun that weighs just 7lbs. 3oz. and balances just forward of the hinge pin.  It is light enough to carry afield for your upland hunts, and with the heavier #2 weight barrels you can use a nice 1 ¼ ounce load for pheasants and fowl.  With all the vintage sporting clays shoots popping up across the country, this is your perfect Fox to show off at the club.  It will be a long time before another Fox like this one shows itself for sale.  This is a gun you can use and enjoy and it will continue to gain value.  Thanks for looking!
