Very rare example of what's know as a Sealing (or seal hunting) rifle.
Not many of these rifles survived the harsh conditions encountered hunting seals on the sea ice. One can just imagine the toll the salty sea water and cold had on seal hunters and their equipment, not to mention the exceptional use these rifles were put to with many hunting expeditions of the day accounting for thousands of seals for each ship.
In total, Alexander Henry made 478 Sealing Rifles, this example being completed on July 19th of 1883.
Most incredibly, this rifle's bore remains in excellent, very near perfect condition!
