Description:
This is a very nice, all-original and matching U.S. Army Colt Model 1909 double-action revolver made in the year 1911.  This heavy-duty U.S. Military revolver features a factory blue finish, a 5.5" inch barrel, and a 6-shot cylinder chambered in .45 Long Colt.  The U.S. Army adopted the Colt New Service Model of 1909 in .45 Long Colt for military service after it was determined that the previous .38 caliber service revolvers did not have enough "stopping power".  There were reports from the Philippines that in some cases an enemy fighter could absorb 2 and 3 shots at times from the .38 caliber Colts and still have enough fight in them to kill American soldiers before dying.  Upgrading to the .45 Long Colt cartridge would ensure that this would rarely happen again.  At the outbreak of WW1 the U.S. Military decided to replace the Model 1909 with the Model 1917, which was the same gun except chambered in .45 ACP.  This made supply much easier as both the military-issue Colt 1911 and Model 1917 used the same ammo.  This particular Model 1909 is in great shape overall.  The original gloss blue factory finish rates 80 to 85% and is still very attractive.  The finish shows some light wear and handling marks typical of an issued and carried U.S. Military revolver.  As you can see from the pictures, the areas that show the most wear are the front and rear grip straps.  All of the factory stampings and military proofs are clean and crisp.  The bore in the 5.5" inch barrel is mirror-bright and clean.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves, and there is no visible pitting or imperfections throughout the barrel.  The six cylinder bores are equallty as clean.  The original smooth American Walnut grips are in excellent condition overall.  Both sides are free from any cracks, chips, major damage, or repairs.  They both still show nice clean "RAC" U.S. inspection cartouches on the bottom edges, and both grips are tight to the gun with no wiggle.  The action on this Colt is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time".  All of the controls are in perfect working order.  This Colt Model 1909 should perform just as well today as when it left the factory 108 years ago.  U.S. Military issue handguns have always been desirable, and this Model 1909 is one of the harder models to find in nice original condition.  It would make an excellent addition to any U.S. Military weapons collection.      PRICE:   $1395              We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974.                    PH. 859-276-1419         We Buy, Sell and Trade Firearms & Knives.    Have a Individual Firearm,  Firearms Collection, or Firearms Estate to sell, let us know, we can buy or consignment sell it for you.                   NOTE:  No additional fee for a Credit Card payment.
