Description:
BAKER GUN Co. “Batavia” SxS HAMMERLESS Shotgun C&R

12 Gauge Side by Side from the Early 1900s!

Here we present a Baker Gun Co. “Batavia Damascus” Model Hammerless Shotgun, manufactured circa the early 1900s. W.H. Baker began working as a gunsmith in Greene, New York in 1859 and produced a variety of guns including muzzle loaders, conversions, two and three barrel breechloaders and shotguns. In 1877, the W.H. Baker & Co. was formed in Syracuse, New York after being financed by L.C. Smith. This partnership lasted only three years and led Baker to Ithaca, New York where he and others established the Ithaca Gun Co. Baker left Ithaca in 1887 and opened his own company called the Baker Gun & Forging Co. in Batavia, New York. A short time later, Baker died in September of 1889.

Baker Gun Co. was known to make low to upper range field shotguns ranging from the “Black Beauty” for $18.85 to the “De Luxe” for $260. In 1903, Baker Gun Co. added a lower priced line of sidelocks called the “Batavia” guns. This example is one of those guns called the “Batavia Damascus”, which retailed for $28 on its release.

The overall condition is fair. The Damascus pattern remains visible with a gray patina throughout. The markings are clear. The numbers match. The stock has been repaired at the wrist. The bores are bright and smooth. There are a few dings in each tube. The actions remain strong.
