This Winchester Model 1897 with a manufacture year of 1905 nearly qualifies to be an antique. It is totally original from the front sight bead to butt plate and everywhere in between. The metal finish is now in the white and the wood looks very good, especially the fore grip. When you rack it the action is snug and exhibits no play from wear or abuse.
It takes a 2 3/4" shell with a tube capacity of 4; to the best of my knowledge. The 30" barrel is fixed at Full Choke so the shot pattern should be fairly tight. The receiver and the barrel group share identical serial numbers which add to the collectability value. With the exposed hammer and pump action this could be the big daddy to my Winchester Model 1890 .22LR pump action rifle.
Even though this shotgun is fully operational, it is more of a piece of history than an everyday shooter. Based on it's weight, carrying it could also be considered a form of body building and exercise. The red stand used for photographing is not included in the sale.
