Description:
This is a predecessor to the 1911 and actually a continuation of the Colt Automatic (model 1900). Colt called this the Sporting Model in late 1902 to differentiate it from the 1902 Military model. Caliber is 38acp / 38 auto. Don't shoot 38 Super which uses the same brass but is a little hot for these pistols. Weight is 2 lbs 3 oz, OAL 9", Barrel 6", 7 round mag capacity, manufactured in 1907. There were 6900 of these Sporting models manufacured, making them rare. This one is well worn with little blue finish remaining, but metal is good w/o pitting, markings are legible, grips are great, mag is original, fixed sights, round stub hammer and 16 rear triangular serrations ( one of 2100 with the rear triangular serrations; as many had forward plunged milled serrations like the Model 1900) - this is a fine functioning example of a rare Colt auto. A must for any early Colt auto collector. I thought about rebluing this one, but decided to keep it as I found it over 25 years ago.
