Description:
***   BREXIT CELEBRATION SALE   -   Reduced $2,000   ***   Great condition Purdey pigeon gun no.16811 made in 1901 and as ready to shoot today as it was the first day it was uncased at the range. Nitro proofed for 1-1/4 oz loads. Cased in its original oak & leather case with accessories this is a great gun for game, clays or the flyer rings.   ***   The action features the classic Beesley self-opener action and has sideclips and a hidden third fastener for strength. It also features disc set strikers, a rolled edge trigger guard for the shooter’s comfort, double triggers, and automatic ejectors. Weighs 7lb 13oz.   ***   The original Whitworth steel barrels are chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells and are topped by a raised solid, stippled and tapered rib. The top of the left barrel is inscribed “J Purdey & Sons. Audley House. South Audley Street. London”. The top of the right is inscribed “Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Pressed Steel”. Both sets of barrels are bored 0.736 and both have a constriction of 0.036 for Full choke. The minimum wall thickness for both barrels is 0.033. How about that for coinsistency?  ***   The straight grip stock and compact semi-beavertail forearm are made of nicely figured French walnut. The stock was originally made with a pistol grip but was professionally converted at some point in the past to straight grip. Stock dimensions are 15” over a 7/8” red silvers pad by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   Cased in its original oak & leather case with maker’s label, snap caps, two-piece cleaning rod and cleaning kit. The inside lining is in good shape and the outer leather shows typical wear for its age.   ***   This gun is in great mechanical condition. Tight on face. The wood and metal finishes are good but the stocks show some handling marks. There is lots of risidual case coloring but there is some fading evident in some places and the barrels have some small scratches and a few  wear spots.   ***   There are lots of Purdeys currently available on the market but few Purdey pigeon guns. Made just at the beginning of the Edwardian era what stories it could tell. Guns like this do not come around very often. Don’t let it slip away.  ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing.
