Description:
1965 Magis-engraved 'special order' 2-bbl set both 28” solid ribs as documented. Set #1: marked F/M. Set #2 marked M/IC. 7lbs 11oz. 1-1/2” x 2-1/8” x 14-1/2” LOP to Browning recoil pad. Gun appears 'as-new' with light handling marks (wood). Finishes are superb 98+%. Includes Browning 2-bbl luggage case. This gun letters from Browning. This is a very scarce anomaly of same-length bbl sets on a 'field' gun. In addition, both solid ribs are also tapered from 7mm to 4.5mm. Ned Schwing writes, “Solid ribs were discontinued as a standard feature for the 'Superposed' in 1960 due to limited demand in favor of ventilated ribs.” If you have REALLY studied Midas Grade engraving examples through the various periods, then you will recognize the game scenes on this example are incomparable. If you aren't familiar with Midas engraving examples then I encourage you to compare this example with others currently on the market - It should become obvious that only a few Midas Grade engraving examples are truly artistically exceptional and collector quality - and that they are not all alike. Keep in mind that everything past the numerous design modifications of 1966 is the result of cost-cutting measures to offset the Increased engraving rates paid to maintain THAT particular quality standard. This is an increasingly hard-to-find and seldom-offered example of the best Midas Grade engraving by one of the most notable and desirable engravers during the peak of her FN career and Superposed production.
