Description:
General Specs: Francotte, Year 1962, 16 Gauge, 5lbs 14oz, Chokes IC/M, LOP 14", DAH 2 1/6", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: 90515

Auguste Francotte is world famous as a high-quality firearms maker from the gun making center of Leige, Belgium dating back as far as 1805.  Still making fine shotguns with price tags starting at $18,000 and running north of $50,000 for their best quality guns, Francotte is a brand recognized and used by heads of state, business tycoons, and in some cases, the fortunate "Average Joe". Search long and hard, you will not find another Auguste Francotte like this one.  First, this is the highest-grade A. Francotte gun offered in their line up in 1962.  You will see a few SIDEPLATE BOXLOCK guns offered for sale on the internet today…grades 25E and higher.  But they are not sidelock guns, merely having a decorative sideplate added to the boxlock action to allow for more elaborate engraving.  This gun is a true 8-pin sidelock action, with cocking indicators and all the characteristics of a true BEST GUN FROM EUROPE OR GREAT BRITAIN.  Look closely and you will see chopper lump barrels, file-cut rib, hidden 3rd fastener at the breech, beaded fences, sculpted frame, bushed firing pins, lavishly figured European walnut full of fiddleback, stocked to the fences, and having drop points, checkered butt, and perfect flat-top checkering.  The engraving is double signed, first by R. Smeets.  It is hard to read but references as being engraver to His Majesty the King.  All these details are only found on best guns of the best makers.  Spanish guns simply cannot compare to the work of the Belgium masters.  Francotte guns are nicely built side by sides with a solid reputation for graceful looks and handling characteristics as well as rock solid dependability.  But when have you seen a 16ga. field gun weighing less than a 20ga?  Weighing just 5lbs. 14oz. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, this Francotte is the epitome of fine handling characteristics.  The condition is just short of brand-new and unfired, with 99%+ case color and blue, not a blemish anywhere, perfect bores and mechanics, the barrels still tight on face and hinge pin like a new gun.  The gun has barely been fired!  We have priced this fine shotgun to sell and if you are an upland hunter, especially for grouse, quail, or woodcock, this is your gun!  Details and specifications can be found below.  Thanks for looking!
