Description:
General Specs: Lefever, Year 1894, 16 Gauge, 28= 6lbs 2 oz; 26=5lbs 12oz
Serial Number: 22419

Most who pursue Classic American Double shotguns are aware that Lefever Arms Co. of Syracuse, N.Y. produced some very elegant shotguns.  The first of the prominent American double gun manufacturers to go, Lefever produced relatively few fine doubles; in the range of 60.000 guns.  Mr. Elliot’s book “Uncle Dan Lefever—Master Gunmaker” notes there were very few higher grade 16ga. or 20ga. Lefevers produced.  It is likely there were only a few hundred made as the EE Grade in 16ga.  Low production, classic double indeed!  To find a nice original gun like this Lefever EE Grade, sn22419 made in 1894, with two sets of fine Damascus steel barrels and in excellent mechanical condition is the needle in the haystack.  Both sets of barrels retain 85% factory Damascus pattern, ring like chimes with tight ribs, have original 2 9/16” chambers, have excellent bores, and plenty of barrel wall thickness to shoot modern one ounce loads.  This 16ga. is built on the 20ga. frame size, as indicated by the “double x” on the frame and illustrated in Elliot’s book on page 129.  The receiver has exceptional game scene/scroll engraving that is certainly executed by Jacob Glahn.  Glahn was a premier American engraver whose work is highly sought after by collectors.  Look at the dogs on the sideplates and the dog’s head on the trigger guard bow, as they are classic Glahn boxy headed dogs.  The scroll is exceptional, and even the border work and the forend fastener escutcheon catch the eye.  Retaining 60% darkening factory case color, excellent screws, original wood with strong checkering and beautiful hand-rubbed oil finish, it is in remarkable condition and rare to find in today’s marketplace.  This is a collectable, investment quality firearm that is a joy to carry and shoot as well.  Weighing just 5lbs. 12oz. with the 26” barrels and 6lbs. 2oz. with the 28” barrels, this is a delightful gun to carry afield.  The versatility of having open chokes in the 26” barrels and M/F chokes in the 28ga. allows one to hunt grouse and woodcock in the thick, and chase prairie birds on the open plains. SEE THE SPECS BELOW. This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, the action having been stripped to its smallest part, cleaned in the Ultrasonic cleaner, each part inspected for integrity and function, properly lubricated and reassembled.  The gun is mechanically excellent plus.  What a rare and gorgeous vintage American double ready for field or sporting clays.  Housed in a case custom fit to the gun with all the accessories ($1000 case), the gun displays very nicely and is convenient to keep all of your goodies in one place.  You will not see one like this again, so don’t hesitate or she will be gone!  Thanks for looking.
