Description:
1893 OCTAGON RIFLE IN SCARCE .32-40 CALIBER, #218XXX, MADE 1901. This one recently came out of here in Montana. It shows good thinning barrel blue with fine markings and original buckhorn rear sight. The front sight is a folding fine and coarse bead that looks like it was a Beach sight with the globe part missing or removed. The mag tube is mostly gray with some small dings near the muzzle. Mottled gray receiver with some case color remaining in the protected areas and good blue on the loading gate. Barrel is marked “SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL” (less expensive priced 1893s at the time of manufacture known as “B” rifles in this caliber and .38-55 may be marked “FOR BLACK POWDER”). Bore is a little dark with strong rifling all the way through- needs a good clean as it appears there is some typical leading in the grooves- but not on the lands. A good brushing with lead remover would go a long way with this rifle. Fine appearance and difficult to find caliber.
