Remington Rolling Block Pistol Model of 1871 Customized
This pistol has been modified by a gunsmith unknow to me.
It is, I believe a US Army pistol Model of 1871.
The work on the piece is first class.
There are no marking on the exterior of the pistol. Assembly and Serial numbers appear on the frame and trigger guard, visable with the grip removed.
The Barrel is 10 1/8" long, the bore is excellent, rifling sharp and bright. There is a barrel band with a wide blade front sight. The rear sight is adjustable. The barrel is round, tapered and stepped down four times. The steps are fluted. Very decoritive. It is sleved in .38 caliber.
The foreend is uncheckered and unnumbered.
The Trigger guard has been modified.
The single piece grip is checkered.
The action and extractor function correctly. The trigger pull is light and crisp.
The face of the frame was reshaped flat and a sliver of wood added to the rear of the foreend.
Bluing is 99%, no rust, or pits, one small scratch on the right side of the frame. Screw heads and pins are good.
I quality fo the work is excellent, perhaps some artist was showing off his skills.
