VERY EARLY MODEL 1903 .38 ACP POCKET HAMMER AUTO PISTOL, #19XXX, MADE 1904 WITH ROUND “STUB” HAMMER. A classic early Browning designed auto pistol that is getting very hard to find these days. All of the early .38 ACP auto pistols were very popular in the Southwest and in Mexico. This one came out of Arizona. Overall metal is a very thin aged blue mixing heavily gray/brown patina with better aged blue in the more protected areas. Obviously, this one was carried a lot and used, but not abuse at all. All markings are clear including the early “BROWNING’S PATENT” over “APRIL 20, 1897 SEPTEMBER 9, 1902” slide marking. Sights have not been altered, grips are not chipped or cracked and are generally excellent, tight action, fine bore with strong rifling and traces of case color on the hammer sides. Has the correct unmarked magazine, which is correct for this serial number range- earlier guns and later guns had variously marked magazines. A not often encountered early auto made before Colt autos had safeties!
