Description:
Joseph Manton percussion SxS shotgun.  In modern terms this muzzle loading shotgun is a 19 gauge.  Joseph Manton is credited with being the innovator/father of modern sporting shotguns.  Notable makers James Purdey, Thomas Boss, Charles Lancaster and others all worked for Manton and learned from Joseph Manton’s brilliant mind.  This beautiful Damascus 31 1/4“ barreled percussion shotgun was built circa 1825.  This date is not exact but it come from Manton’s in England.  Except for a spot on the left barrel where the finish is gone this Manton remains in antique  very fine original condition.  The furniture may have had a coat of varnish added at some point but the wood to metal fit is excellent.  Weight is 6 lbs. 11 oz.  The LOP is 14 1/4", 2 3/16" DAC and 3" DAH with 1/4" cast for a right hand shooter.
