US Springfield Model 1866 50-70 trapdoor army rifle in full military configuration. The Model 1866 was the first 50-70 rifle made for the US Army and used in the early Indian wars. The full length 3 band stock is in good condition and shows various numbers which are probably unit markings. Metal is in the bright, retaining a smooth grey brown color. Breach block is marked 1866, lock is marked US Springfield 1865 and the American eagle. Butt plate is marked US, 3 bands all have the small u. This rifle appears complete with a very good bore.
