This is a very unusual Luger and holster rig to say the least. We're calling this a "War Trophy" because it was put together at the factory most likely at the end of the war. It has no factory logo, factory code, proof marks or serial number. That could not happen unless it was stolen by an employee, or picked up by a GI at war's end. (and a factory theft would NOT put his name on the gun!) The safety bar and sear bar are numbered "42" and "00" respectively no doubt re-cycled parts left in the factory. Interestingly, the front strap has the initials H. SCH. stamped into the metal. Similarly, found on the back of the holster is the name "H. SCHNEIDER". A quick search finds an American civilian investigator, Henry Schneider, was employed by the US Army to look into the possibility that Ford and GM "collaborated" with the Nazi's before the US got into the war. He was in Germany in Sept of 1945 and issued a report. It is feasible that such a high level investigator would have access to such a souvenir should he want one, AND have the means to have a factory worker imprint his name on the holster and gun. The gun is in about 96% condition with some light edge wear and very minor strap wear. The biggest areas for wear are the straw parts. No rust or pitting and a minty bore. No maker stamps or proofs on the gun or magazine. Grips are unmarked, and the holster is an original 1942 police luger holster. Also, at this point we have no way of PROVING the actual identity of H. Schneider.
