Description:
OUTSTANDING CONDITION HOPKINS & ALLEN  No. 922 FALLING BLOCK BOYS’ RIFLE IN .22 LONG RIFLE, MADE 1890-1915. These were very high quality single shot rifles that are not often seen now. In fact, C. Sharps Arms in Big Timber, Montana has just started reproducing this model (according to their they are sold out). Base price is $830 (plain walnut, hard plastic butt plate etc.) plus Federal Excise Tax (approx. 10%). This is a truly great example as most of these rifles were used by enthusiastic, adventurous boys who dreamed of roaming the wilds with a .22 rifle (they didn’t have video games back then, I guess). Those that have survived their original owner’s enthusiasm are today usually found in hard-used condition. This rifle with 24” round barrel retains fine case color on the receiver sides and receiver ring with only some light fading. Even the upper and lower tangs show color along with the breech block, hammer and some on the lever! The barrel blue is deep with almost full coverage remaining. Hopkins and Allen barrel markings are sharp. Has a buckhorn and blade front sight. The action is very tight with the lever snapping up smartly. The forend and butt stock are excellent showing most of the original finish and tight wood to metal fit. The steel butt plate retains much of the original blue. The bore shows strong rifling all the way through with some scattered light roughness mainly in the rear 1/3 of the barrel. A good brushing and application of J-B bore paste would probably improve this a bit. The No. 922 was a takedown rifle and the takedown is very tight on this one. Superb overall and would be very difficult to find better.
