Rare documented special order officers model 22 target cut away trigger guard double action revolver with factory letter. Serial #25292. 22 cal. 6'' round barrel,original blue finish,carved ivory grips. This special order revolver was originally shipped to Captain W.I.Vrooman of Rochester,NY,on August 5,1940. Factory cut away trigger guards are rarely encountered and are generally found only on so-called Fitz-Gerald specials (hide-away guns with the short barrels,cut away trigger guards,and bobbed hammers ) other features on this gun include elevation adjustable Patridge blade front sight,windage adjustable square notch rear sight,standard Colt markings,matching serial numbers,checkered hammer and trigger,checkered blackstrap,and silver rampant Colt medallion ivory grips with a relief carved eagle and shield motif on right panel. 85% original blue finish with high edge wear visible on the cylinder,muzzle, and forward tip of the trigger guard. The grips are fine with minor handling marks,typical age cracking on the bottom and attractive mellow appearance. Mechanically excellent. This factory documented Officers Model Target cut away trigger guard revolver is a true rarity in Colt collecting and is a must have for the serious collector !
