Description:
This is a very cool and very unique Ruger New Model Blackhawk that was factory customized in the first few months of 1980.  Bought new at the end of 1979 or early 1980, this Ruger New Model Blackhawk started life as a standard .45 LC gun with a 7.5" inch barrel and no factory .45 ACP cylinder.  At the request of the gun's owner, Burger Enterprises in Paris Kentucky contacted Ruger to find out if Ruger would do some modifications to the gun and what the costs would be.  A handwritten letter was sent to Ruger on Feb.27, 1980 with all of these questions listed out (see picture provided).  Ruger returned the letter to Burger Enterprises on March 5th with their answers written in red.  At that time it was decided to send the gun to Ruger to have them add and fit a .45 ACP cylinder to the gun, as well as fit a stainless steel grip frame from a KBN-36 to the Blackhawk to make it a custom "two tone" gun.  The work was completed by Ruger and the gun was sent back to the owner, where it was fired a handful of times and then put in storage until now.  This beautiful Ruger Blackhawk is in excellent condition inside and out, and is complete with the factory-fit .45 ACP cylinder, the original owner's manual, the warranty card, the original black grip frame that Ruger removed, the plastic shipping bag, and both of the original boxes it was shipped back from the factory in, complete with all of the original labels.  The original correspondence with Ruger will also be included, it is in-route to us now so we had to use pictures of it in this listing.  It is comprised of the Ruger factory envelope addressed to the FFL with a postmark dated March 5, 1980 that the reply came in, and the actual envelope and letter sent to Ruger by Burger Enterprises that Ruger wrote their replies on in red ink.  As mentioned earlier, this unique Blackhawk has a beauiful original gloss-blued finish, rating 98% plus with the only deductions coming from a few tiny handling marks that are only visible under very close inspection.  These deductions do not detract any appreciable amount from the like-new looks of this gun.  The bore in the 7.5" inch barrel is minty and mirror-bright with perfect, sharp rifling.  The cylinder bores in both cylinders are pristine as well.  The factory custom stainless steel grip frame is in excellent condition as well, with the only deduction coming from a little nick on the backstrap about an inch down from where it narrows from the back of the gun.  This can be seen in the pictures provided.  Outside of that little nick the grip frame is like-new.  The original smooth Walnut grips are in great shape and are very attractive and clean.  Both sides show a little handling mark next to the grip screw hole but are otherwise perfect.  You can certainly tell they were factory-fit to the stainless grip frame, as they fit them perfectly and they are both tight to the frame with zero play in them.  All of the controls on this Ruger are in perfect working order, and the action is perfectly "in time", precise, and smooth.  This New Model Blackhawk should function 100% like the day it first left the factory 40 years ago.  The original black-finished alloy grip frame that was taken off of this gun is also in excellent condition rating 98% plus, as-is the extra cylinder in .45 ACP that was added to the gun when it was customized by Ruger.  This is really a neat and unique gun that would be a superb addition to any Ruger collection.  Factory customized guns are few and far between from Ruger, and are very seldom so complete as this one.
