Peter Moll began making guns in Hellertown around May of 1826. In 1830, Peter formed a partnership with his nephew (or cousin) David Moll and continued until the death of David Moll on August 31, 1853. The P. & D. Moll Gun Shop specialized in brass barreled pistols. The Hellertown shop is said to have stayed very busy not only making pistols and rifles, but also converting flintlocks to percussion locks in their later years. It is estimated that 80-85% of all original flintlocks were converted to percussion by gunsmiths in the period from 1835 to 1855. This rifle is extremely heavy and would have been most ideally used off of a log or a stump or a bench, even over a horse’s saddle. Its stout octagonal barrel is in .56 caliber, large enough to take medium to large sized game. The lock is likely a replacement to the original. This rifle also has double set triggers for precision shooting. The right side of the butt stock has a large and decorative brass patchbox. No ramrod comes with this one. The overall condition is good. The bore is clean with nice rifling. The action remains strong and the set trigger must be set. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 39 inches. Caliber: .56 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
