Serial Number: 222763

Winchester's Model 70 was called the "Rifleman's Rifle" by many, including the shooting editor of Outdoor Life, Jim Carmichael.  Known for its accuracy, rugged durability, and overall good looks, the Pre-64 Model 70 has continued to be in high demand and has grown in value yearly.  Most of the Model 70 rifles produced were Standard Grade rifles in common calibers like the .270 Winchester and the .30-06 which made up almost 2/3rds of the total 581,000 pre-’64 Model 70’s.  Only 2.52% of the total production was in the .257 Roberts and the Model 70 in this caliber is highly coveted by shooters in the know.  The .257 Roberts is loaded on the 7mm Mauser case necked down to .257 diameter.  This cartridge is known to have very light recoil, flat trajectory, and plenty of down-range energy for most all North American game.  It is one of the better deer calibers available and breaks the 3000fps realm with 110 grain bullets.  The ammunition is readily available.  This rifle is an amazing find!  IT IS COMPLETELY FACTORY ORIGINAL IN ALL WAYS AND RETAINS 98% OF ITS FACTORY FINISHES…TRULY A FINE PRE’64 MODEL 70.  Serial number 222763 was built in 1952 and has 98% factory blue on the barrel, 99% factory blue on the action and bolt.  The wood is in 99% finish and is wholly factory original.  The bore is mirror shiny with sharp rifling.  There is always a difference in value when you go from 95% to 98%.  This Model 70 is priced affordably and will make a great addition to your Winchester collection.  It is an awesome hunting round for any area of the country.  The Winchester Model 70 in this caliber and condition will continue to be sought after and appreciate in value as you enjoy its use.  Thanks for looking!
