Description:
This is a very attractive D.W.M. 1906 Dutch contract Luger in 9mm.  It has the unique original Dutch Military I.D. plate on the left side of the frame identifying it as belonging to the 9th Infantry, 2nd Division of the Dutch military as best we can tell.  This Luger started life in 1906 as part of a 4,000 gun order for the Dutch government.  The Netherlands were excellent customers for the German D.W.M. firm, having placed additional small orders for Lugers three times prior to World War 1 breaking out.  The 1906 Dutch Luger featured a 4" inch barrel chambered in 9mm Luger, a thumb safety marked "Rust"(for safe), a grip safety, and it lacked the stock lug on the rear grip strap.  The Dutch military used these pistols in military service in all of the military branches, and had a regular program in place for refurbishment as the guns were used and aged.  This particular example is serial number 2840 out of the 4000 guns made in 1906, and it shows it was rebuilt/refurbished in 1931 due to the markings on the barrel.  As you can see from the pictures, the Dutch rebuild stamp consists of the 4 digit date stamped on the barrel just ahead of the chamber "1931", and the initials "GS" stamped about halfway out on the top of the barrel.  The original Dutch arsenal blue finish on this Luger is very attractive and is in very good condition overall, showing only light wear on some of the high edges.  The bore is in excellent condition, with nice sharp rifling throughout the barrel.  All of the numbered parts are matching on this Luger except for the hold-open and right grip panel, which appear to be un-numbered.  The take-down lever, trigger, safety lever, ejector, and magazine release button all show traces of the original yellow "straw" finish.  All of the controls on this 1906 Dutch Luger are in perfect working order, and the action is slick and precise.  We have no doubt that this Dutch Luger would function just as well today as the day it left the factory 113 years ago!  It comes with one magazine in very good condition, an original WW1 wood-bottom German military Luger magazine.  If you have been looking for one of these scarce and desirable Dutch contract Lugers here is your chance to get a really handsome example that would be an excellent display piece and investment at a great price.
