Description: 58 cal, 40'' barrel with an oxidized bore. The metal surfaces of this 1863-manufactured rifle-musket are toning to a mottled pewtery-gray patina with scattered areas of smoothed minor pitting and light oxidation throughout. The nipple bolster displays a spread eagle motif with ''U.S. / COLT'S PT F.A. MFG CO / HARTFORD CT'' on the lockplate below. The rear of the lockplate and the upper barrel flat are dated ''1863'' while the upper left flat displays a ''V / P / (eagle head)'' proof mark and the left flat bears the inspector's initials. The smooth black walnut straight grip stock rates very good plus to near fine as lightly cleaned with a few scattered impact marks from the years with the remnants of two cartouches on the left flat and softened inspector's initials on the comb by the ''US'' marked buttplate. This Special Model 1861 features intact sling swivels, correct cupped ''tulip'' head ramrod, bayonet lug/blade front sight, correct Model 1861 two leaf rear sight, and a strong and crisp action. Dirty bore with rifling. This Colt Special Model 1861 would make a great addition to any Colt or Civil War martial arms collection, I "may" have a proper bayonet with scabbard for an additional $125....2nd FIREARM SHIPS "FREE" WITH THIS ONE!!!...S/H $40 (48 STATES).
