TRADE PENDING... (LAYAWAY?) ...Remington M1863 Zouave Civil War Rifle...NICE!............58 cal, 33'' barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing just a few small spots of minor oxidation and strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this rifle retains about 85% original blue thinning evenly throughout with areas toning to a pleasant gray-brown patina, scattered freckling and some spots of pinprick pitting around the breech. The hammer and lock plate have mostly toned to an attractive silvery case-hardened patina with scattered light freckling, strong colors still in the protected areas around the hammer and smoky remnants along the hammer itself. All of the lock plate and breech markings are clear, both dated 1863 and the trigger and action screw heads still show strong fire blue. The brass hardware has mostly toned to a nice ocher patina showing some scattered spots of mild staining and verdigris along with clear sub-inspector marks throughout. The top tang of the buttplate is marked ''U.S.'' and the patchbox still retains a spare nipple and ramrod worm. The smooth walnut stock remains in very good plus to near excellent condition, the most noticeable wear being a couple long thin slivers missing along the ramrod channel, a small chip above the lockplate and some more minor scattered dings and handling marks. The stock is otherwise very attractive retaining almost all of its military oil finish and showing strong cartouches on the left side. The ramrod, sling swivels and original sights are intact and the action functions crisply. A very attractive example of these handsome percussion rifles.
