Payment Types Accepted: Check or Money Orders Description: SALE PENDING....(LAYAWAY?)... RICHMOND ARMORY RIFLE MUSKET DATED 1862...CSA...Civil War..with PROVENANCE.... Cal. 58. NSN. Overall length 56" w/ 40" bbl., marked at breech w/ "V" "P" & Harper's Ferry / Richmond style eagle. The "P" is correct Richmond style w/ break in die & can be seen in photos. Long rear sight steady-pin slot in bbl. extending forward of rear sight dovetail, M1861 leaf type rear sight. “Low hump” lockplate marked forward of hammer w/ "C.S." over "RICHMOND, VA" & to the rear of hammer marked w/ date "1862." This is the first type 1862 date stamp w/ all numerals intact & open "2". No marks inside lock, but has Richmond or U.S. Model 1855 type mainspring swivel. Top & bottom bands have Richmond style offset "U", middle band is not marked. Brass buttplate, nose cap is brass w/ an iron screw. Stock does not have slot for US Model 1855 Maynard tape primer arm showing Richmond mfg. Ramrod is swelled Model 1855 type. Attached to the arm is a Confederate 40" cotton sling w/ leather sling loop intact, 4 holes in hook strip. Beverly DuBose's inventory number 150 in black paint on buttplate tang. CONDITION: good overall. Bottom band does not fit properly & has been considerably dented along the edges (clear evidence of hammering to fit). Screw for hammer will not tighten down completely; otherwise lock is functional & action is still crisp. Stock bears the usual dings, dents, & is noticeably absent of finish. Considerable wear around the bolster, both in wood & metal. Metal is overall mottled gray patina w/ pitting. Worn pitted bore w/ traces of rifling. Appears original & authentic & "as found" w/ the exception of rear sight, hammer & ramrod, which are all period additions. Attached sling is in fine overall condition w/ scuffing to leather attachment.
