The big S&W top break revolvers may not have won the west but they surely took a couple of rounds in the hands of men like Wyatt Earp, John Wesley Hardin, "Buffalo Bill" Cody, "Texas Jack" Omohundro, Pat Garrett and many others. This is a commercial Smith & Wesson Model No. 3 Russian 3rd. Model aka New Model Russian. This .44 caliber revolver appears unmolested except for an early replaced front sight blade. The New Model Russian is amazingly functional especially for a 146 year old revolver! The gun locks up smooth and tight and much of the original nickel finish remains. The butt has a boxed "1874" over the serial number along with a small "P." Marching assembly numbers appear on the cylinder, grip frame, barrel, and barrel latch. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun. Mechanically excellent. Only 13,500 of these were made and this is a solid example of a scarce S&W Model 3 New Model Russian Revolver that could be shot today.
