Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: This is a really neat example of a battle-used Luger from the 1st World War that is complete with the original unit markings on the front grip strap. According to the grip strap markings "1 G.R. 2.M.G.K. 22.", this Erfurt Luger was issued to the 1st Gruppe (group) of the 2nd Machine Gun Company, weapon number 22. This was very typical of the Imperial German Army as the machine gun crews were loaded down with all of the equipment required to operate a heavy machine gun and rarely had the ability to carry a standard rifle or carbine, only a handgun for close-quarters & hand-to-hand fighting. There is no telling what WW1 history and battles this Luger was involved in, but virtually all of the German machine gun companies saw a lot of action before the war ended. This Erfurt Luger is all-matching except for the trigger, firing pin, and magazine. There is no way to know exactly how these parts came to be mismatched, but they were more than likely damaged or lost while in combat and replaced with whatever was available. Due to the early manufacture date of 1912, this Luger left the factory without the shoulder stock lug on the rear grip strap and without a last round hold-open. At some point before or during World War 1 it was sent back to Erfurt for installation of the hold-open which it now has. The frame was drilled from the right side, the inside was machined to fit the hold-open, it was installed and then proofed on the exterior, right next to the exposed end of the pin on the right side. The original factory blue finish on this gun has a good combat-used look to it with some relatively light finish wear and handling marks, consistent with what you would expect to see. Most of the finish wear is on the high edges, grip straps, and on either side of the muzzle from holster carry and use. All of the original factory stampings and proofs are all still nice and clean, and the Imperial German army applied unit marking on the front grip strap is legible and deep. The bore in this Luger is average condition and shootable. The rifling is still visible throughout the bore but it does show light pitting throughout as well. There are no deep pits or bulges visible. The original factory grips on this gun are in great shape overall. Both sides are numbered to the gun and free from any cracks, repairs, or major damage. The checkering on both grips is still pretty sharp and still provides a very positive grip. All of the controls on this Luger are in perfect working order. The action is slick and locks up perfectly, there is no doubt that this Erfurt will function just as well today as it did 107 years ago when it left the factory. As mentioned earlier, this Luger comes with one period magazine in good functional condition. If you have been looking for a nice shooter Luger that also has some really neat history behind it, this WW1 Machine Gun Company 1912 Erfurt would be a great choice. Not only would this Luger be a lot of fun to handle, admire, and shoot, it should be a great long-term investment as well.
