Description:
German Military Krieghoff Lugers are one of the most collected and sought-after Lugers in the world.  Due to their very low production numbers during WW2, and the fact that they were primarily issued to Nazi Germany's elite Luftwaffe Fallschirmjagers (paratroopers), these Lugers are typically the "centerpiece" to any Axis pistol collection.  In 1935 the German Luftwaffe accepted a contract with the Krieghoff firm for the delivery of 10,000 Lugers.  While very few were actually completed in 1935, the first small batches of guns were delivered in late 1935.  Production continued through 1936 and well into 1937, with the "superficial" completion of the original contract with the delivery of weapon serial number 10,000 in late 1937.  Due to some of the pistols failing the Luftwaffe's proof tests and inspection process, it really wasn't until 1938 when the contract was completely filled with the delivery of some additional pistols in the 10,000 serial block.  The Krieghoff firm would continue to build a small number of commercial pistols in 1938 and 1939, at which point the plant's production capacity went entirely into making automatic weapons for Luftwaffe aircraft.  This particular 1937 Krieghoff Luger is an all-matching gun except for the firing pin which is un-numbered, and the magazine which is a WW2 Mauser example with an "Eagle 63" Waffenamt.  It was obviously some G.I.'s war trophy and is not import marked.  This Luger absolutely looks like it was used in the war rather than having sat in some Luftwaffe officer's desk drawer.  There is a very good chance that this pistol was on some paratrooper's hip as he parachuted out of a Junkers JU-52 plane into the Netherlands or Mediterranean theatre.   As you can see from the pictures, the pistol has a very good look to it and shows some small handing marks and spots of finish wear/patina that are consistent with a combat-used and carried gun.  Most of the finish wear is on the high edges and on either side of the muzzle from holster carry.  Most of the factory original golden yellow "straw" finish on the trigger, safety lever, and ejector has worn off, however there are some traces remaining on all three parts, particularly in the protected areas.  All of the factory stamps and Luftwaffe inspection stamps are in excellent condition and entirely visible.  The bore is in good condition with nice strong rifling visible throughout the barrel.  There is no bad pitting or erosion issues, only some very light frosting located mainly in the grooves.  The original checkered brown plastic grips are in excellent condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, and both sides are perfectly fit and tight to the gun.  All of the controls on this Krieghoff are in perfect working order, and the action is slick and locks up precisely.  There is no doubt that this Krieghoff would function just as well today as the day it left the factory.  As mentioned earlier, this 1937 Krieghoff Luger comes with one period original magazine, a Mauser-made example in very good condition that is 100% functional.  If you have been looking for one of these rare and sought-after Luftwaffe-contract Krieghoff Lugers for your collection that looks like it has actually been in combat, here is your chance to get a really nice one at a great price!
