In the late 1930's the German army wanted a large caliber, semi-auto firearm to replace the difficult and costly luger. They wanted it to be produced by several manufactories, so the parts had to be interchangeable among them. It has a short recoil and fires from a locked breech by means of an external hammer. It is Nazi proofed and has no import stampings on it.
