Description:
ORIGINAL HENRY DERINGER U.S. INDIAN DEPT. FLINTLOCK TRADE RIFLE CIRCA 1815-20. 63” o/a with 47 ½” octagon/round .60 caliber barrel stamped on the top flat “H. DERINGER/PHILADA”. Full length walnut stock with brass mounts and “EAGLE HEAD” patch box. Lock a very good reconversion to flint-very hard to detect with original parts. Very fine all original otherwise with stock and metal having the original patinated finish. Small toe plate missing and chip out of toe. Original ramrod. For identical examples see Milton von Damm’s chapter (4) on U.S. Arms for Indians pp. 95-103 in his finely illustrated book-THE FUR TRADE-A HISTORY OF ARMS AND TRADE GOODS. Rare and very historic as well as being in very nice condition for an Indian used rifle.
