EUROPEAN .70 CALIBER Antique Pistol from 1800s
With Fluted Stock and Engraved Hardware
Here we present an antique European Percussion Pistol, made circa 1850 in Mainland Europe. Belt-sized pistols like these were used to defend oneself when traveling or in public places. It was big enough to fight with, but not so large as to be cumbersome. They could be both as handsome or as plain as one desired or could afford. One can imagine that this pistol may have been purchased by a gentleman or a successful businessman.
The trigger guard, lock, pommel and barrel are nicely engraved. German silver hardware. Fluted grip. Cap trap in the pommel.
The overall condition is good. The stock lost a sliver under the lock long ago. The place is now smooth with years of use. The bore is dark with visible rifling. The action is strong. No half-cock.
