Description:
SOLD...Antique Colt Thuer Derringer rare and early 3rd model with high hammer spur and tight curl grip with British proof markings on the bottom of the barrel {see photo }.. This is tight grip and high hammer spur 3rd model 2nd variation much more rare then the 3rd model later variation with the sloping hammer and standard grip curl. These are all antique and the S/N is 9651 and all matching frame, barrel and inside both grips. This model was made in 1875 into the 1880's...This little gun has no finish remaining. The frame is a smooth bronze color never polished on or messed with. The barrel is a smooth cleaned gray with the excellent COLT marking. Excellent front sight. It has one very tiny ding on the top left side of the barrel from the firing pin from improper closing of the barrel with the hammer in the down position. Very common to see this model very badly dinged up in this area from this misuse even on high condition guns. Mechanics are excellent with rock solid barrel to frame lock up and excellent extractor. Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. The grips are very nice with no cracks and still retain about 90% original varnish. A couple minor light dings and scratches on the bottoms. The screw heads are clean and not all burred up. The bore is VERY good with strong rifling and only minor roughness. Way above average bore for this model as most you will find have terribly pitting or shot out bores. This is a very honest and never messed with little Colt Derringer that was very popular in their day as back up guns, gamblers and ladies of the night.. Rock solid mechanics and a great bore ready for your collection of Derringers or pocket pistols. A great example at a fair price to fill the hole in your collection of the high hammer and tight curl grips or until a nicer and more expensive one comes along. $12 insured shipping.
