Description:
The American Railway Express Company (AM.RY.EXP.) was created on June 30, 1918 when the United States Railway Administration nationalized the railroads during World War I. Created as a national monopoly, the ARE Co. was the answer for what the government saw as a war-time threat to the secure shipment and delivery of parcels, manufactured goods, and currency.

When the government returned the railroads to private control in 1920 with the passage of the Esch–Cummins Act, the ARE Co. became a private corporation. In 1928, the Railway Express Agency (REA) was formed which immediately absorbed the ARE Co. The REA continued to provide secure shipping of goods over the nation’s railroads through the early 1960’s when the name was changed to REA Express. The company ceased operations in 1975 when the business model was no longer viable.

It is believed this pattern of holster was the one in use during the pre-WWII years. This .38 S&W Long revolver itself is in 90%+ condition with minor holster wear. It has near-perfect grips, with the diamonds being mostly smooth. It also features a fire-blued hammer and trigger, as well as a 4" barrel with a bright bore.

  • ATF
