Engraved Richard HOLLIS Percussion Belt Pistol
English Flintlock Made Circa 1817
Here we present an antique Richard Hollis Percussion Pistol, made circa 1817 in Birmingham, England. Richard W. Hollis was in Birmingham on Loveday Street and then Staniforth Street by the middle of the 19th Century. This pistol features a large .69 caliber bore that would have been worn on the belt or holstered as it was carried into battle. Originally made as a flintlock right on the cusp of obsolescence, this old pistol was updated to the percussion firing system. The frizzen and pan have been removed from the lock, a hammer added, and a percussion bolster added to the vent. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its gaping bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels.
The overall condition is good. The stock has seen much use and there are a few repairs as seen in the photos. The bore is smooth and dark. The action remains strong.
