Rev War HESSIAN Antique Flintlock CAVALRY Pistol
18th Century Long Germanic Horse Pistol
Here we present an antique Germanic Flintlock Cavalry Pistol, made circa the 18th Century. This pistol’s last owner was confident that this pistol was used during the American Revolutionary War by the Hessians, which were mercenaries (perhaps more accurate “auxiliaries”) fighting on behalf of their lord for the British from the German states such as Hesse-Cassel and Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. You may remember one of the United States’ most iconic moments as George Washington crossed the Delaware River into Trenton, New Jersey on Christmas evening to launch a successful surprise attack on the Hessian troops stationed there under their commanding officer Johann Rall.
This piece is long in form, starting with the oblong and octagonal steel pommel cap and tapering down extensively to the muzzle. The top of the grip has a diamond-shaped placard of steel. Steel trigger guard and sideplate. The top of the barrel bears faint engraving and there are small square stamps that were the maker’s marks. This pistol is well-used but comes to us well-preserved and a perfect relic for your Revolutionary War collection.
The overall condition is Good. The action is strong. The bore is dark and dusty with age.
