Engraved NAPOLEONIC Era Big Bore .60 Caliber
Here we present an antique French Empire style Flintlock Officer’s Pistol, made circa the early 1800s. The First French Empire (officially the French Empire) was the empire of Napoleon Bonaparte of France and the dominant power in much of continental Europe at the beginning of the 19th century. A series of wars, known collectively as the Napoleonic Wars, extended French influence too much of Western Europe and into Poland. At its height in 1812, the French Empire had 130 departments, ruled over 70 million subjects, maintained an extensive military presence in Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Duchy of Warsaw, and counted Prussia and Austria as nominal allies.
This pistol is large and has a .60 caliber bore. There is a Liege proof on the left side of the octagonal barrel. The barrel swells slightly at the muzzle. Equipped with both front and rear sights, which were not a given during this period. Light engraving on the steel throughout.
The overall condition is Fair. The action is strong all around. The bore is dark. The engravings are clear and ornate. This one has seen much use and it shows!
