Description:
This is a well-made bayonet that measures 23 7/8" overall, with a 21 3/8" angular blade having a coffin-shaped ricasso, and full-length, hollow ground back flutes. The shank measures 1 1/8" long, while the 2 5/8" long socket, which has an L-shaped mortise with functional locking ring. The metal has an overall mottled plum-brown patina with scattered spots of mild freckling and a pinprick pitting. The bayonet mortise fits a .43 caliber Peabody very closely, although there is a fair bit of play between the socket and the barrel.
