Here we present an antique Allen & Wheelock Sidehammer Lipfire Revolver, made circa 1861 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Only an estimated 300 of these revolvers were manufactured around the early 1860s before production was halted in 1863 due to infringement of the Rollin White patent. Not all companies responded in the same way to the development of cartridge revolvers and the Rollin White patent. Allen & Wheelock, for example, decided to simply ignore the patent and make revolvers for their proprietary lipfire cartridges (fairly similar to rimfire) while relying on their lawyers to delay the anticipated patent infringement suit for as long as possible. Ultimately it took 4 years for Rollin White and S&W to gain a legal injunction against them, and when that did happen, they were ready and converted their production to percussion revolvers of the same basic type. This revolver has a really neat rack and pinion ejector that is mounted on the left side of the gun as seen in the photos. The loading gates flips down backwards and would have allowed a right-handed shooter to maintain his master grip while ejecting spent cases and reloading the cylinder. The left side of the barrel is marked “ALLEN & WHEELOCK. WORCESTER. MS.U.S./ALLEN’S PAT’S. SEPT. 7. NOV. 9. 1858. July 9. 1860” The overall condition is Very Good. The action is strong and smooth. The bore is in good shape, dim with strong rifling. Here is a very nice example of a rare Allen & Wheelock Sidehammer Revolver with a very unique method of ejection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .32 Lipfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
